Lesson 10 at a glance
Ramanlal Soni’s story-poem: Bhulo, a merchant of Idar, sets out at dusk for Kotda village, loses his way in the forest in the dark – and four thieves jump out! Instead of panicking he shouts, ‘I’m not alone – I have twelve companions!’ and swings his sack full of heavy weights (કાટલાં) at them. The thieves flee. Back home, when children ask who his twelve were, he counts: two hands, two eyes, two feet, four weights and the sack make ten – and the last two, the truest, are courage and confidence.
