Lesson 11 at a glance
Mother has to go to her brother’s house for a few days because her sister-in-law is unwell. Hirva promises, ‘Don’t worry, Om and I will manage!’ – though Om usually dodges every job. Hirva patiently teaches him to wash dishes, sweep and mop. By the end Om discovers that work done together is fun, and realises how much Mother does every day without complaint.

વાર્તા: કામની મજા ને મજાનું કામ – સરળ ભાષામાં
મમ્મી આજે મામાને ઘેર જવાની હતી – મામીની તબિયત સારી ન હતી. બે-ત્રણ દિવસ ત્યાં રોકાવાનું હતું, પણ ઘરની ચિંતા હતી. હીરવાએ કહ્યું, “મમ્મી! તું ચિંતા ન કર! અમે બધું સંભાળી લઈશું!” મમ્મી હસી પડી – ઓમ તો દરેક કામમાં આનાકાની કરનારો!
ઓમે વચન આપ્યું, “હું બહેનને મદદ કરીશ.” બપોરે જમ્યા પછી વાસણ માંજવાનાં હતાં. હીરવાએ ઓમને શીખવ્યું – એંઠાં વાસણ પાવડરના પાણીથી ઘસવાં, ચોખ્ખા પાણીથી ધોવાં અને કોરી જગ્યાએ મૂકવાં.
થોડી વારમાં ઓમને ફાવટ આવી ગઈ. કામ પૂરું થયું એટલે હાશ થઈ! મનમાં થયું – ‘મમ્મી તો આ કામ રોજેરોજ કરે છે, છતાં કંટાળતી નથી.’
પછી ઝાડુ અને પોતું – બંનેએ સાથે મળીને આખું ઘર ચોખ્ખું કર્યું. મમ્મી પાછી આવી ત્યારે ઘર ચકચકતું હતું. ઓમ બોલ્યો, “મમ્મી, હવે રોજ હું પણ મદદ કરીશ – સાથે કામ કરવાની તો મજા જ મજા છે!”
