Lesson 5 at a glance
When Ramu comes home late from school, Grandpa tells a ‘new story’ about Queen Electricity (વીજળીરાણી). Once a boy flying a kite in the rain got a shock when lightning ran down the wet string. People learned to make electricity in powerhouses, send it along grid wires to homes, farms and factories, and bring it back. The queen works hard and goes straight home – and if anyone blocks her path, she strikes! Moral: like her, go straight to school and come straight home.

વાર્તા: વીજળીરાણી – સરળ ભાષામાં
એક સાંજે રામુ શાળાએથી મોડો આવ્યો – રસ્તામાં મિત્રો સાથે ટોળટપ્પાં કરતાં રોકાઈ ગયો હતો. બધાં ચિંતા કરતાં હતાં. દાદાજીએ કહ્યું, “કોઈ એને વઢશો નહિ,” અને નવી વાર્તા શરૂ કરી – વીજળીરાણીની.
“એક છોકરો પતંગ ચગાવતો હતો. જન્માષ્ટમીના દિવસે વરસાદ પડ્યો, આકાશમાં વીજળી ઝબકી – ભીની દોરી દ્વારા છોકરાને ઝાટકો લાગ્યો અને તે નીચે પડી ગયો. વીજળીમાં કેટલી તાકાત છે!”
“લોકોએ વિચાર્યું – આ તાકાત પાસેથી કામ કરાવીએ. પાવરહાઉસમાં વીજળીરાણી પેદા થાય; ગ્રિડના તાર દ્વારા ગામેગામ પહોંચે; દીવા સળગાવે, પંખા-પંપ-કારખાનાં ચલાવે અને કામ પૂરું કરી પાછી પાવરહાઉસમાં આવી જાય.”
“પણ એને રસ્તામાં કોઈ રોકે તો ગુસ્સે થઈ ઝાટકો મારે! એટલે તાર સાથે રમત નહિ.” દાદાજીએ ઉમેર્યું, “વીજળીરાણીની જેમ આપણે પણ સીધાં શાળાએ જવું ને સીધાં ઘેર પાછાં આવવું.”
